Windows VPS Pricing Explained: Why Windows License Is Charged Separately
Transparent VPS Pricing Matters
At Ready Server, we believe VPS pricing should be simple, transparent, and predictable. Recently, some users have asked why Windows licensing costs are not included in the default VPS pricing. This article explains how our pricing works and why Windows licensing is displayed separately during the VPS creation process.
What Is Included in the Default VPS Price?
The default VPS hourly pricing shown on Ready Server applies only to infrastructure resources:
- vCPU cores
- RAM (memory)
- Storage
- Network connectivity
- Unlimited data transfer
Unlike many cloud providers, Ready Server does not charge additional bandwidth fees, traffic overage fees, or data transfer surcharges. Whether your VPS transfers a small amount of data or large volumes of traffic, the data transfer remains included. This allows users to estimate infrastructure costs more accurately without worrying about unexpected network charges.
Why Is Windows License Not Included?
Microsoft Windows Server licensing is a separate software cost and is not part of the underlying VPS infrastructure.
Not every customer requires Windows Server. Some users prefer Linux-based operating systems, while others require Windows Server for their applications and workloads.
Including Windows licensing costs in every VPS plan would mean all customers pay for a software license regardless of whether they use it. For this reason, Ready Server separates infrastructure costs from optional software licensing costs.
How Windows Licensing Is Displayed
To ensure transparency, Windows licensing costs are displayed during the VPS ordering process.
Step 1: Operating System Selection
Ready Server only supports operating systems available from the Ready Server VPS operating system selection list. When creating a VPS and selecting a Windows operating system from the available templates, the applicable Windows license points are clearly displayed before deployment.
Step 2: Checkout Confirmation
Before the VPS is created, the Ready Server mobile application displays the total monthly point deduction that will apply. This includes:
- VPS resource charges
- Windows license charges (when a Windows operating system is selected)
The total monthly cost is displayed before confirmation, allowing customers to review all charges prior to deployment.
Why We Use Separate Pricing
Separating infrastructure and software licensing provides several advantages for customers.
Fair Pricing
Customers only pay for the operating system licensing they actually use. Linux users are never charged for a Windows license they do not need.
Transparent Software Costs
Windows licensing remains visible and identifiable instead of being hidden within bundled VPS pricing. This makes it easy to understand exactly what you are paying for.
Flexible Operating System Choice
Customers can select the operating system that best fits their requirements without paying for unnecessary software licenses. If your workload runs on Linux, your VPS cost stays at the infrastructure rate only.
Accurate Cost Management
Businesses can clearly distinguish between infrastructure costs and software licensing costs. This makes budgeting and cost tracking easier for finance teams and operations teams alike.
Example Pricing Structure
A VPS cost on Ready Server consists of two clearly separated components.
Infrastructure Resources
- vCPU
- RAM
- Storage
- Network
- Unlimited data transfer
Optional Software Licensing
- Windows Server License (when Windows is selected)
If a Linux operating system is selected, no Windows licensing charge applies. If a Windows operating system is selected, the corresponding Windows license points are displayed during VPS creation and included in the total monthly point calculation shown before deployment.
Our Commitment to Pricing Transparency
At Ready Server, we strive to provide clear and predictable pricing without hidden charges. All applicable costs are displayed before deployment, including software licensing fees where relevant.
Our commitment includes:
- Transparent VPS resource pricing
- Unlimited data transfer with no bandwidth surcharges
- Clear visibility of Windows licensing costs
- No unexpected billing surprises
By separating VPS resource charges from optional Windows licensing costs, customers only pay for the infrastructure and software they choose to use. Whether you are running Linux workloads or deploying a Windows VPS in Singapore, our pricing model is built to be straightforward from the start.
